Subject: [Name]’s 1st step to salsa mastery

Pre-header:

[Name], are you ready to take the first step to salsa glory? Inside is your free Salsa 101 video.

Body:

First off, thanks so much for checking our studio out! That tells me that you are curious about ballroom dance and that you’re brave enough to take a chance (and if so… we might just become best friends).

I don’t know about you but I’ve always been curious about dance. But going to a class always felt…well… intimidating. I had this image in my mind that everyone there would know what they were doing (yes, even at a beginner class) and that I’d be the odd man (err… woman) out.

I’m not going to lie, I wish I had a chance to get a feel for the studio before I stepped inside. So, I wanted to give you what I didn’t have – a free Salsa 101 guide. This way, you get to try out a couple of easy steps before braving the studio mirrors.

The video is below so make sure to check it out! You’ll learn 3 salsa steps:

  • The Basic Salsa (the beginning of everything)

  • The Turn To Rule Them All (follow turn)

  • Leads Gotta Have Fun Too (leader turn)

[graphic with the link to the online video at the website (link)]

FYI: The link takes you to the video on our website which is only accessible by the link. Yes, you’re that special.

Tips on how to get the most out of your salsa video:

  1. Give yourself space – you don’t need to move the couch but you’ll want at least 4-6 sq ft to move around in.

  2. Wear comfy clothes – you’ll want something you can move in that isn’t too tight. (Extra pro tip: if you’re learning the follower steps, consider slipping on a pair of comfy heels. Dancing slightly on the balls of your feet is easier than going flat-footed.

  3. Relax – learning how to dance is supposed to be fun, so don’t stress and just enjoy the ride.

  4. You’re allowed to watch the video more than once – Try just focusing on the feet first, then the hips (gotta love those Latin hips ya’ll), then the arms. One step at a time!

  5. Dance with a partner (even a pretend one) – you don’t need a buddy for this but if you have one, great! Learn at the same time. If not, pretend you do and still hold your arms up like there’s someone there. It helps get your body feeling right.

Subject: So [name], how’d it go?

Pre-header:

Did you try the 3 Salsa 101 moves from the prior email? Dance master, here you come!

Body:

If you enjoyed the 3 salsa moves, it's time to try them out on the dance floor! …oooorrrr maybe not. That imposter syndrome can be strong, huh?

Or maybe you got the email but haven’t tried it yet. Maybe it's been languishing in your inbox (...I don’t have 30 unread emails in my personal box. Nope. Not me…).

Jake, our favorite beginner Latin instructor felt that way too. When he first started, he told himself that he was going to try one of our beginner parties 3 times before he actually showed up to one. That’s 3 times that he put it on his personal calendar, 3 times he decided to try, and 3 times he chickened out.

But that 4th time?

Well, let's just say he never looked back. He’s been our primary salsa instructor for 4 years now and wanted to share this tidbit:

“The hardest part is starting. After that… Well, the light-hearted fun kept me coming back and the dances themselves always find a new way to surprise me. Salsa, tango, and bachata are my favs… they all have something different about them, a fire that gets under your skin. It's the best feeling ever.”

If he can go in person and brave that imposter syndrome to start, so can you.

Here’s that link again: [link to video lesson]

PS:

What was your favorite move of the 3? I’m partial to the Basic myself. If I’m ever not sure what to do next or get lost in the music (and believe me, it happens all the time), the basic brings me back every time

Subject: [look inside] Your inside scoop on Charisma studio

Pre-header:

What makes Charisma Studio like no other studio in C-bus? Let’s go behind the scenes!

Body:

Walking into a dance studio for the first time is intimidating.

At least, I always thought so.

There’s something magical about the lighting and mirrors but at the same time, the floors are wooden and glossy and the instructors seem so…perfect, you know? Always in step and tall. (Why are so many of them tall!?)

Well, let me let you in on a secret. …They’re not all tall. 😛

No, but really, dance studios can be intimidating, but they don’t have to be.

The Charisma Difference:

First off, there’s Maggie (that’s me!) at the front desk who’s always got a smile on her face, if I do say so myself. There’s no haughty side-eyeing here, only enthusiasm.

Second, we’re all in this together. Across all levels, the last thing we want is for our classes to feel stuffy. With a wide range of beginners, intermediate, and advanced classes there’s something for everyone. But there’s no looking down at the beginners or judgy competition between the advanced students. And I’ll give our instructors credit for that one. They’re… less scary ballet madame and more goofy Weasley twins (especially Mark and Theo. You’ll hear them before you see them. I promise.) They know what they’re doing but don’t miss an opportunity to include everyone.

Third, there’s no dress code. Sure, we have recommendations (dance shoes make it easier to move in, for sure), but whether it's your first or 50th time attending a class or dance party, wear what you’re comfortable in and what makes you feel good.

**Ok, there’s a bit of a caveat here. Wear anything too graphic, offensive, lewd, or physically unclean and we have to ask you to change. That’s for the safety of our other students and our instructors**

Fourth, there’s no need to bring a partner. Feel free to bring someone if you know someone who wants to come but there’s no pressure! Our group classes rotate partners so there’s no one left out (plus there’s a technical advantage to learning how to dance with different people who have different styles, even as a beginner) and in our private lessons, the instructors will partner as needed.

Finally, we offer a range of cost-effective options for students. Ballroom dancing can get expensive quickly, that’s no joke. But with a range of class options and social dance parties that are low cost (or free for yearly students), the worth far outpaces the price.

Soooo, have I convinced you that we aren’t so scary yet?

Check out our Instagram for photos of our classes, parties, and more. [link to insta]

Always dancing through life!

Subject: Don’t just take my word for it…

Pre-header:

Ever wonder why some people stick to a dance studio and some jump ship? From the mouths of babes students:

Body:

Ok. So there’s a handful of ballroom dance studios in C-bus. By my Google map search, there’s 9 on the west side alone. And when you’re in the business long enough, you start to see some familiar faces.

Some people change areas and find a closer studio to work or home. Some decide they don’t like their instructor and change it up. Others go based on cost alone when changing studios.

There’s a hundred different reasons for a hundred different people. But there are some common ones.

Here’s what a few of our students have said about why they switched from their prior studio:

“My now wife and I did a choreographed wedding dance with [another studio] and while we got a nice dance out of it, the lessons themselves were overwhelming. She was always a dancer so after our honeymoon we decided to give Charisma a try. What a difference! The instructors are funny and don’t take themselves too seriously. Plus, they really know their stuff!” - Jason K.

“I danced at [other studio] for about a year when the prices got to be too much. I looked for other cheaper options that still had good reviews and stumbled upon Charisma. So much cheaper than [other studio] but it doesn’t feel like it! The classes are well-organized and the dance parties are way more fun and not just a bunch of people showing off.” - Maria A.

“Yeah, I tried a couple other places before I found this one. The instructors just seemed bored or way too into it. There was no in between. Here, you can tell they actually care about us social dancers and give us the time of day, even if we aren’t as ‘polished’ ” - Kerry L.

And here’s what a couple said about why they started with us and stayed:

“Oh, I love it here! Why would I go anywhere else? The price is great for the amount of instruction. I hadn’t danced before I came but I’m so glad I did. It’s magical!” -Sabrina T.

“There’s just so many classes that I haven’t tried yet! The amount of knowledge the instructors have is great. And they don’t feel stuffy. It's so much fun!”- Chelsea S.

You already heard from Jake a couple of days ago about how he fell in love with dance after trying our classes for the first time. And me?

I’ve been to a few studios but always keep coming back. I started at Charisma in college, ran out of money, and shifted to a less expensive studio. But I’ll be honest… I hated it. Most of the instructors didn’t seem to care about social dancers and only cared about those who showed interest in becoming professional ballroom stars. And the studio felt tight when there were more than 5 of us using the space at any given time. Talk about a hard no when trying to take a group class. So the moment I graduated and got my first “big girl job,” I came back to Charisma. Some of the instructors had moved on to bigger and better dreams but the feeling of the space? The same joy and fun were there. Plus Mark and Theo didn’t let me stay sentimental for long. Off to a goofy polka, it was!

There’s always a time to dance,

PS:

Did you follow us on Instagram and TikTok yet? Check us out and get a real sense of Mark and Theo’s goofy behavior. I have it on good authority they filmed one of us getting pranked… [link here]

I think I can claim we’re honorary besties now (I can, right?)

You’ve tried 3 basic salsa moves, saw a glimpse of our studio, and heard from our students. Are you ready to come to a class?

I get it, the imposter syndrome is yelling in your ear. What’s it saying?

  • “You’ll make a fool out of yourself”

  • “You don’t have the right thing to wear”

  • “You won’t have a partner”

  • “You don’t have the money”

  • “I don’t know what class to sign up for”

But you know better. Don’t let that imposter syndrome keep you from something you’ve always wanted to try.

Plus, You already know 3 salsa moves! You have a leg up on everyone else who didn’t get the memo. And here’s a secret - those 3 moves are what we’ll start with in our Friday night intro. So look at you! You’ll get a good refresher and confidence boost seeing something you already know before you learn more.

Feeling extra brave?
